What is a UK Civil Partnership Visa?
The UK Civil Partnership Visa allows people in a legally recognized civil partnership with a British citizen or settled person to live in the UK. Civil partnerships have the same legal status as marriage and provide identical rights under UK immigration law.
Same Rights as Marriage
Civil partnerships have identical legal rights to marriage. The visa requirements, benefits, and path to settlement are exactly the same.
33 Month Initial Visa
Your first visa is valid for 33 months (2 years and 9 months), with full work and study rights throughout.
Path to Settlement
After 5 years in the UK on this visa route, you can apply for Indefinite Leave to Remain (permanent settlement).
Civil Partnership vs Marriage: No Difference in Rights
Under UK immigration law, civil partnerships and marriages are treated identically. Whether you're in a civil partnership or married, you have the same visa requirements, the same work rights, the same path to settlement, and the same benefits. The only difference is the type of legal ceremony you've had. Both routes lead to permanent settlement after 5 years and eligibility for citizenship after 6 years.
