What is a Proposed Civil Partner Visa?

The UK Proposed Civil Partner Visa allows you to enter the UK for 6 months to form a civil partnership with a British citizen or settled person. After forming your civil partnership, you can switch to a Civil Partner Visa to continue living together in the UK.

For Engaged Partners

Designed for couples planning to enter into a civil partnership (same-sex or opposite-sex) with a UK citizen or settled person.

6 Month Duration

Your visa is valid for 6 months. You must form your civil partnership within this period and then switch to a Civil Partner Visa.

Path to Settlement

After civil partnership and switching to Civil Partner Visa, you're on the path to settlement (ILR) after 5 years.

Important: Civil Partnership Within 6 Months

The Proposed Civil Partner Visa allows you 6 months to enter the UK and form your civil partnership. You cannot work or study during this period. After forming the partnership, you must switch to a Civil Partner Visa (which can be done from within the UK) to gain full work and study rights for 30 months. Extensions to the 6-month period are possible but require strong justification.
