What is a Marriage Visitor Visa?

The Marriage Visitor Visa is a type of Standard Visitor Visa that allows you to visit the UK for up to 6 months to get married or form a civil partnership. After the ceremony, you must leave the UK and cannot switch to another visa type from within the country.

For Short Marriage Visits

Designed for couples who will marry in the UK but do not plan to live in the UK permanently afterward.

Affordable Option

At £115, this is much cheaper than a fiance visa (£1,538) but you cannot stay in the UK after marriage.

Cannot Switch Visa

You must leave the UK after marriage and apply for a spouse visa from abroad if you want to return.

Important: Choose the Right Visa

If you plan to live in the UK after marriage, you should NOT apply for a Marriage Visitor Visa. Instead, apply for a Fiance Visa (£1,538) which allows you to switch to a spouse visa from within the UK after marriage, giving you 30 months residence with full work rights. The Marriage Visitor Visa is only suitable if you will leave the UK after the wedding.
