The Domestic Worker in a Private Household visa allows you to visit the UK with your employer if you work as a domestic worker in their private household. This visa is for workers such as chauffeurs, cooks, nannies, and those providing personal care for the employer and their family.

- Reside outside the UK and work as a domestic worker in a private household
- Have worked for your employer for at least 1 year
- From outside the European Economic Area (EEA) and Switzerland
- Meet the other eligibility requirements

UK Domestic Worker Visa Requirements
Personal Requirements
- You must be 18 years or older
- Have worked for your employer for at least 1 year in the same household
- Work in the same household as your employer or one they use regularly
- Plan to travel to the UK with your employer, their partner, or children
Employment Requirements
- Intend to work as a full-time domestic worker in a UK household your employer will live in
- Your employer must pay you at least the national minimum wage
- Plan to leave the UK at the end of 6 months or when your employer leaves, whichever is sooner
Financial Requirements
- Be able to support yourself in the UK without public funds
- Not intend to settle permanently in the United Kingdom
Employer Requirements
Your employer must be either:
- •A British or EEA national who usually lives outside the UK and doesn't intend to remain in the UK for more than 6 months
- •A foreign national coming to the UK on a visit who doesn't intend to remain for more than 6 months
Required Documents
Identity & Travel Documents
- Current passport or valid travel identification with blank page for visa
- Details of where you'll be staying and return travel booking
Financial Evidence
- Bank statements or payslips for the last 6 months showing you can support yourself
Employment Evidence
- Letter from employer confirming you've worked for them for at least 1 year
- Completed and signed statement of terms and conditions of employment
- Statement from employer confirming they'll pay you at least national minimum wage in the UK
- Pay slips, bank statements, or confirmation of tax/health insurance paid
Additional Documents
- •Work visa, residence permit, or passport endorsement for country where currently employed
- •Visas or passport endorsements if you've travelled with employer before
- •Certified translations of any documents not in English or Welsh
Application Process
Apply Online
Complete your visa application online up to 3 months before your intended travel date. The application fee is £637.
Provide Biometrics
Visit a visa application centre to provide your biometric information (photograph and fingerprints).
Wait for Decision
Standard processing takes approximately 3 weeks. Priority services are available:
- Priority Service (£500): 5 business days
- Super Priority Service (£1000): Next business day
Important Information
- •You can only stay 6 months with this visa
- •No extension is possible for standard applicants
- •Special rules apply if you applied before 5 April 2012
- •Victims of slavery or human trafficking may apply for up to 2 years stay
