Parent of Child at School Visa Overview

This is a very restrictive visa that allows one parent to accompany a child under 12 who is studying at an independent fee-paying day school in the UK.

What You Can Do

Accompany and care for your child in the UK

Engage in voluntary work

Extend visa for 12 months at a time (while child under 12)

What You Cannot Do

Work in any paid employment

Study at any educational institution

Start a business or be self-employed

Access public funds or benefits

Switch to another visa category from within the UK

Make the UK your main home

Very Important Restrictions

This visa ends when your child turns 12 or completes their final year of school. You MUST leave the UK when the visa expires and cannot switch to any other visa type from within the UK. If you want to remain in the UK after this, you must return to your home country and apply for a different visa category.

Consider whether this restrictive route is suitable for your family's long-term plans before applying.

Must have a Child Student (Tier 4) visa

Parent Requirements

Have enough money to support yourself and child without public funds

Maintain a second home outside the UK

Plan to leave the UK when visa expires

Be able to meet cost of return journey
